KARACHI Jan 09 (TNS): Masses seek from the government to right away subdue the inflation as vegetable and fruit prices have skyrocketed across the country.
Hike in petroleum product prices is believed to have played catalyst for the rise in the prices of veggies and fruits. The government upped petroleum products prices on the eve of New Year by rupees 4.6 to 6.7.
Amid this price hike on petroleum products retailers are charging their desired amount from customers. Okra is being sold in Lahore for Rs150 a kilo, while green chilli’s price has gone up to Rs100 a kilo.
Fruits are also not available at the prices set by the local administration. The merchants have to say that the rate list set by the administration was not correct and impossible to follow as they were getting edibles from wholesalers on higher prices.
Price of okra, or as many people call it ladies’ finger, has climbed up to Rs200 a kg in Multan. Bitter gourd (karela), okra and ridged gourd (turai) are being sold in Sukker for up to Rs160 a kg.
The hike in petrol prices has also increased costs of chicken and meat. People are wondering that how long they will have to bear the brunt of government’s flawed policies.
