CM inaugurates first ever modern sewerage treatment plant

GILGIT, Jan 10 (TNS):Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan, Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman here on Wednesday inaugurated the first ever  state-of-the-art sewerage treatment plant in GB and said it was a prominent day in the history of Giligit after inauguration of the facility that was totally ignored by former regimes.

After inaugurating the plant, the CM said former regimes gave no attention towards progress of the region and remained indulged in awarding their loved ones.

Soon after assuming the power, our government started work on several mega projects in GB and within a period of only two years we completed some vital mega projects, he said. The promises made with people of GB by our leader Muhammad Nawaz Sharif were honored by GB government he said and added that 100% implementation was made on these pledges.

The sewerage plant project, he said would cost Rs 7 billion however he said during implementation of this project people would have some difficulties but strong efforts would be made to complete this project well in time. The CM continued that services of NLC were commendable in progress of our country and this mega project will also be carried out by NLC with assistance of Turkish company Anta.

He said 70% of diseases in GB were being caused by the polluted water and lack of sewerage system owing to which this important project was initiated so as to save precious human lives. Proper sewerage system, he said was a much needed requirement of GB. He said GDA has been directed to connect sewerage system of Zone-2 with this treatment facility and paperwork in this regard should be completed as soon as possible. The water released from this plant, he said would be used for parks and compact foresting.

Rehman further said the project of worth Rs 4 billion including by-pass road in Gilgit, mega power projects, urban transport and provision of clean drinking water to the GB dwellers were underway that on completion would bring a pleasant change in this region.
