Registration process of INGOs to be transparent: Interior Minister

ISLAMABAD Jan 11 (TNS):  Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal says the peculiar circumstances in Pakistan call for monitoring the operations and funding sources of International Non-Governmental Organizations.

Talking to a delegation of Ambassadors in Islamabad, he said it is necessary to ensure that no extremism related NGO is able to secure foreign funding.

The Interior Minister said the applications of international NGOs for registration have mostly been rejected for their non-compliance with the requisite registration process.

He said the criteria for registration process of INGOs will be transparent and applicable across the board.

The Interior Minister urged international community to join hands with Pakistan to speed up repatriation process of Afghan refugees to their country.

The delegation comprised Ambassadors of European Union, the United States, Canada, Norway and High Commissioners of Britain and Australia.
