Islamabad, Jan. 16 (TNS): Minister of State for Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal says the government has no control over employment matters of private banks.

He was responding to a calling attention notice moved by Sheikh Salahuddin and others regarding termination of services of employees of Habib Bank Limited by giving them pre-mature retirement without their consent.

The Minister of State said that one hundred and forty four HBL staff members who served the bank for over 25 years have been terminated.

He said as per policy, the bank can give some additional benefits and terminate their services on completion of their 25 years of service.

Rana Muhammad Afzal said the bank has taken this decision in the interest of automation and other technical requirements that these employees did not meet.

Responding to a calling attention notice Minister of State for Communications Muhammad Junaid Anwaar Chaudhary told the house that Prime Minister Shahid Khan Abbasi has sought a report from the National Highway Authority for repair and upgradation of various roads in Balochistan.

The Minister of State said these roads do not fall in the purview of NHA but even then the Prime Minister has sought report from the chairman NHA for a detailed survey of these roads.

He assured the house that repair and upgradation of these roads will be started as soon as the prime minister gives his nod and allocates required funds for this purpose.

The House was adjourned due to lack of quorum to meet again tomorrow morning at ten thirty.
