Islamabad, Jan 26 (TNS): President of Pakistan’s Peshawar Chamber of Commerce and Industry says that private sector of Pakistan desires to enhance cooperation with Iran.
He made the remarks during a meeting with a six-member delegation of Iran’s Orumiyeh Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture led by Behnam Tajedini.
Deputy Consul General of Iran in Peshawar Seyed Ibrahim Dihnavi was also present in the meeting.
On the occasion, President of the Peshawar Chamber of Commerce emphasized further cooperation between the Iranian and Pakistani private sectors.
He added that traders and small industry owners of Peshawar are willing to cooperate with Iranian businessmen.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two business bodies was also signed in the meeting. The two sides agreed on the formation of a special committee with an aim of solving the problems occurring in the bilateral trade.
The Iranian delegation also met with President of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KPCCI) Zahid Ullah Shinwari.
Pakistan trade activist in the meeting said Pakistan and Iran could extend bilateral trade volume to $5billion by removing hurdles.
He said that Iranian investors could also increase trade and industrial linkages in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
He said that KP trade and business communities were interested in enhancing trade links with Iranian traders and businessmen. He called for setting up a banking channel between Iran and Pakistan to enhance trade and business activities.
Major Iranian dry fruits and fresh fruits traders were also present in the meeting.
Later the Iranian delegation visited Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and met with its President Zahid Malik and senior members.
The President of RCCI assured the Iranian traders that he will approach relevant officials of Pakistan to resolve issues in bilateral trade.
The Iranian delegation is currently on a visit to Pakistan to enhance trade ties with the country.
