Davos, Jan. 26 (TNS): US President Donald Trump on Friday made a major statement while addressing the World Economic Forum 2018 when he said, ‘America First is not America alone’.

‘America First’ was a major slogan in Trump’s Presidential bid along with ‘Make America Great Again’. America First was seen as a major sign of the most powerful country on the planet taking a protectionist and non- engaging stance on domestic and global fronts respectively.
Trump built his campaign appealing to the majority white working class by saying that their jobs were being ‘stolen’ by the immigrants and that the country was losing millions of dollars as most of the companies are outsourcing their operations. This seemed to resonate with the US electorate as he clinched the most coveted job.
However, there was frustration and resentment in the global political circles as US under Trump was largely shunning global platforms like those related to global warming among others.
The various attempts of the Trump administration to almost block the entry of immigrants and refugees sent a message of a US turning inwards and being no longer interested in playing its part in global arena as it has done for many decades.
Considering this, President Trump’s latest statement seems to be aimed at calming the frayed nerves all around the globe as he invited businesses from world over to come and invest in US.
