LAHORE, Jan 28 (TNS): Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal once again categorically mentioned that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has an absolute consensus over Shehbaz Sharif as party’s candidate for the position of Prime Minister in the upcoming general elections.

Responding to journalists’ queries on Saturday after inaugurating the first-ever NADRA Facilitation Desk for the Business Community at Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Ahsan Iqbal has said that Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif had already nominated Shahbaz Sharif as the Candidate for Prime Minister’s Office in the next general election and there shouldn’t have been any ambiguity in that regard.

This is not the first time that a senior member from the ruling party has expressed his agreement over the Punjab chief minister as future PM.

Earlier in December, 2017, former PM Nawaz Sharif told senior party members that his brother Shehbaz Sharif would be the party’s candidate for premiership in the upcoming polls.

The PML-N president also said that Shehbaz had never disappointed him or the party, and had risen to prominence because of his hard work and performance.

Then, the senior PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, on numerous occasions has backed Shehbaz Sharif as future PM.

In a recent informal chat with reporters, the former interior minister said that PML-N as political party is going through a very critical period, and the decision to nominate Shehbaz Sharif as PM candidate for the 2018 elections is a positive move, provided that he is allowed to operate of his own free will.

Shehbaz Sharif himself appears passionate to hold the top office, as he last week said that he would be a hands-on premier and personally look after development projects.

Addressing a public rally last Sunday, the Punjab CM said that Peshawar, Karachi and Balochistan province would progress as Lahore if the people give Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) mandate in General Elections 2018.
