Education minister Stresses need for quality education to upcoming generations

ISLAMABAD, Feb 1 (TNS): Minister for Education and Professional Training Baligh Ur Rehman on Thursday has stressed the need for provision of the best quality education to the upcoming generations.

In an Interview  he said , the present government has expanded the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and efficiently supported thousands of poor households all over the country.

“Education plays an imperative role for development of the country as the Incumbent government has accorded top priority to the provision of education to all citizens on equal basis”, he said.

Minister said under the programme, financial incentives are given to the poor families to enable them to send their children to school, adding, national curriculum council has been established for maintaining standards in the education sector.

Government is also making efforts to implement same curriculum across all provinces which will take some time, he mentioned.

Baligh said efforts will also be made to design a flexible curriculum keeping in view the local traditions, customs and folklore.”

“After providing access to education for all, now the focus is to ensure quality education to students across the country”, he highlighted.

“We want healthy competition between private and public schools for providing quality education to students,” he added.

“Education is not something only between students and teachers. Parents, communities, society and other stakeholders should be involved in the process. This will bring productivity and improvement in education,” the minister said.
