Traders appeal to PM to honor his promise for promulgation of rent control act in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD Feb 09 (TNS): A delegation of newly elected Traders Welfare Association, Super Market Islamabad led by its President Shehzad Abbasi visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and discussed major issues of the market with Sheikh Amir Waheed President ICCI.

Speaking at the occasion, Shehzad Abbasi, President, TWA, Super Market, Islamabad said that Prime Minister of Pakistan in a meeting with local business community had promised to arrange the passage of amended bill of rent control act from parliament, but no visible progress has been made so far to this effect. He appealed to the Prime Minister to honor his promise for promulgation of new rent law in Islamabad as without the said law, forced evictions of traders were on the rise in the federal capital due to which traders were feeling insecure about their future.

He said Rehmat Khan a trader of Super Market was abducted on Feb: 07, 2018 at 10:15 p.m. while he was going from his shop to toilet and called upon the IGP Islamabad to help in his early recovery. He said Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry during administering oath to the newly elected office bearers and representatives of TWA Super Market had promised to address carpeting and other issues of the market, but still no tangible measures were taken to resolve issues. Highlighting other issues of Super Market, he said the market needed filtration plant, parking, streetlights, better sewerage and sanitation systems and emphasized that CDA should focus on addressing these issues. He thanked ICCI for hosting TWA, Super Market and assured that his association would work with ICCI in resolving key issues of trading community.

Saqib Abbasi Senior Vice President, Amir Qureshi Vice President, Muhammad Hussain General Secretary, Nasir Iqbal Additional General Secretary, Haris Bakhtawri Joint Secretary, Muhammad Zahid Press Secretary, Tabish Iftikhar Finance Secretary and others were in the delegation.

Speaking at the occasion, Sheikh Amir Waheed, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that the issue of new rent control act was likely to be included in the Feb 14th agenda of National Assembly and hoped that new rent would soon be promulgated in the federal capital. Showing great concerns over the abduction of trader Rehmat Khan from Super Market, he called upon the IGP Islamabad and the local administration to help in his early recovery. He stressed that ICCI and concerned market should always be taken on board before taking any action against any trader.

Muhammad Naveed Senior Vice President, Nisar Mirza Vice President ICCI, Zubair Ahmed Malik Chairman Founder Group, Muhammad Ejaz Abbasi Chairman ICCI CDA Sub-Committee, Muhammad Hussain Secretary General TWA Super Market, Khalid Chaudhry and others also spoke at the occasion and said that if new rent law was not taken up by National Assembly on Feb: 14, 2018, traders would observe complete shutter down on Feb: 28, 2018 in Islamabad.
