Orientation session for new students at M.A. Jinnah University

KARACHI Feb 09 (TNS):  President, Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi Prof. Dr. Zubair Shaikh said that after launching BS-Bioscience and MS-Bioinformatics degree programs in our Faculty of Life Sciences, we have now planned to start a new five years degree program of Doctor of Pharmacy (D Pharm) this year.

This he stated while addressing to an orientation session held for new students of Computer Science, Engineering and Bioscience departments. Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. Dr. Kamran Azim, Associate Dean, Computing & Engineering Faculty, Dr. Asim Imdad and head of Computer Science department Dr. Shoukat Wasi also addressed to the orientation session. Addressing to the new students, Dr. Zubair Shaikh said that teaching and learning process should continue together, otherwise it is a futile exercise.

He said that at the time of admissions at MAJU, we always guides to the students to select suitable subjects for them and to choose a right career for their bright future. He emphasized that students should differentiate between Software Engineering and Computer Science. Similarly to realize the importance of Engineering and Bioscience because both the subjects have changed our life pattern completely, he added.

Dr. Zubair Shaikh said that most important aspect of Computer Science is problem solving, as essential skill for life. He said that students of Computer Science may study design, development and analysis of software and hardware used to solve problems in a variety of business, scientific and social contexts.

He said on the other hand typical formal definition of Software Engineering is” the application of systematic, disciplined, quantifiable approach to the development, operation and maintenance of software”. He said that software engineering is relatively a new area of engineering though, but the scope of software engineering is extremely broad.

Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. Dr. Kamran Azim while highlighting the importance of Bioscience in everyday life said that this subject is also called Biology and life science, is the study of living organisms, from a microorganism to a blue whale.

He said the study and application of Bioscience affect almost every aspect of life from health to agriculture and food to industry and energy. Associate Dean, Faculty of Computing & Engineering, Dr. Asim Imdad said that Computer Science and Engineering are most vital for the development of country and nations.

He said no country may achieve its targets of national development without promoting computing and engineering. He said that at MAJU we are focusing on the encouraging research activities in Computer Science and Engineering, in this connection all possible help and guidance is being provided to students and teachers. He told the students that we complete our academic colander well in time and disciplined are maintained strictly here.
