RAWALPINDI, Feb (TNS): Three citizens received injuries on Saturday after Indian forces resorted to unprovoked firing on residential localities along the Line of Control (LoC) on Sunday, army’s media cell reported.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the aggressive forces opened cross-border fire in Buttal, Tattapani and Khuiratta sectors along the LoC, in another violation of 2013 ceasefire treaty.
Firing left two women among three locals injured prompting Pakistani troops to retaliate and Indian check posts were targeted.
The violation came a day after Indian government moved anti-tank artillery to the front trenches along the LoC, a move criticised by Pakistan for being contradictory of Narendra Modi government’s stance of regional peace and good terms with neighbours.
India has been resorting to violation of ceasefire treaty signed with Pakistan in 2003 ever since the pact. In 2013-14, Indian forces opened unprovoked fire 536 times at the LoC, 382 times in 2016 and as many as 1881 times in 2017.
Dozens of locals residing in towns and villages near LoC embraced martyrdom and were wounded in the cross-border firing.
