SRINAGAR, Feb 11 (TNS): Thousands of people on Sunday participated in the funeral prayers of teenage girl, Saima Wani who succumbed at SKIMS Srinagar last night.
At least two back to back funerals were held to accommodate the huge rush of mourners who had turned up at Saima’s native Aodoo village of Shopian the southern district of occupied territory.
Saima (20) was injured during a gunfight between militants and government forces on January 24 in Chaigund hamlet of the district when along with some of her neighbours including a friend went to her house where her Mujahid brother Sammer Wani and his companion was holed up by Indian Army.
The trigger happy forces fired at them which resulted severe head injury to saima and her friend.
With her death, the number of civilians killed in Shopian since January 25 has reached seven.
Witnesses said thousands of people from Pulwama, Shopian and adjoining villages participated in the funeral of Saima amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.
They said ‘taranas’ were broadcast over the public address systems during the funeral.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Pulwama and Shopian districts against her killing.
All shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the roads.
Mobile Internet service was suspended in both the districts last evening.
