Peshawar, Feb 14 (TNS): As heavy snowfall in Khyber Pakhtunkhaw has brought the life to standstill and thousands tourists have been stranded Shahbaz Sharif has directed Commissioner Rawalpindi to help Khyber Pakhtunkhaw administration.
Heavy snow and avalanche blocked the roads in mountainous areas of KP and thousands of tourists have been stranded in Naran Kaghan. At least 800 vehicles were reported stranded in northern areas earlier in this week as new wave of cold gripped the region. The heavy snow fall caused cutting of water supply lines and electricity.
The KP administration has failed to provide relief to disaster-stricken people has left a question mark on the performance of the administration. The heavy snowfall has blocked the roads in Narran, Kaghan and thousands of tourists have been stranded. The continuous snow falling in Naran, Kaghan has added difficulties to rescue operations.
The blockage of roads can trigger food shortage and petrol crisis. On the direction of Shahbaz Sharif Rawalpindi administration has geared up the relief activities and evacuated more than 100 stranded vehicles. The Punjab government has re-opened Murree Road and road to Abbottabad from Nathia Gali which blocked after two days persistent heavy snowfall.
