ISLAMABAD, Feb 14 (TNS): The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), on Wednesday filed two supplementary references against Sharif family in an accountability court in Flagship Investments and Aziza and Hill Metal Establishment cases, said a press release issued by NAB.
Chairman Justice Javed Iqbal has approved filing of two supplementary references against the Sharif family in Flagship Investments and Azizia and Hill Metal Establishment cases.
Earlier, the NAB had summoned deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directing him to appear before NAB Rawalpindi on February 10 to record his statement to complete legal formalities before filing these two supplementary references. However, Nawaz did not appear and these supplementary references lack any statement of the accused. The July 28 judgment of the Supreme Court in Panama gate case provides that NAB could file supplementary references “if and when any other asset, which is not prima facie reasonably accounted for, is discovered. Court allows witnesses to testify via video link in Avenfield properties’ reference. The NAB now claims it has obtained some new evidences and witnesses related to these two cases. Nawaz Sharif and others have been facing three different corruption references against them. In January, a supplementary reference was filed against Nawaz and four others in Avenfield properties case.

According to a NAB official, the bureau has obtained the transcript of Hussain Nawaz’s interview with a private television channel and that transcript would be made part of the supplementary reference. Earlier, NAB had asked Pakistan Electronic Media Regulation Authority (PEMRA) to provide a copy of the transcript of that interview but it claimed that PEMRA does not keep records of programme recordings beyond 90-days. However, the official said NAB had now obtained that transcript and it would be made part of supplementary references. While a NAB source claimed that details of some other companies owned by Nawaz Sharif sons and unearthed recently would also be made part of these references.
