NASHIK, Feb 18 (TNS): In yet another incident depicting growing anxiety and stress among the Indian Army ranks, a 31-year-old Army jawan allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself to the ceiling, police said on Saturday.

According to Press Trust of India the deceased Krishna Nagu Kolhe hailed from Kolhapur and was working at the MT Park unit in Devlali near here, an official of Devlali camp police station said.

He took the extreme step last evening by hanging himself from the ceiling at the car shed of the unit, the official added.

According to the officer, Kolhe had recently been transferred to Devlali from Rajasthan.

A case has been registered and a probe was on, the officer added.

Reports say that only since 2003 more than 2000 Indian soldiers have taken their lives during their postings across the country.

The ratio is alarming in IOK in particular where occupation forces commit suicides every now and then. The number of such deaths amongst the Indian troops and police personnel in the occupied territory is reported to have reached to 394 since January 2007

At least 100 personnel of Indian security forces finish their lives every year despite several measures taken by successive governments to reduce stress and anxiety prevalent in soldiers.
According to a report by the Indian defence ministry, 80% suicide cases belonged to armed forces of the country.

Prolonged deployment for counter-insurgency operations in the Himalayan valley and north-east region takes a toll on the physical strength and mental health of the Indian soldiers. 111111111111111111 11111

The local media cites poor salaries, lack of basic facilities, rejection of leaves and incompetent leadership remains the other factors for their suicides.
