Islamabad Feb 28 (TNS): The National Highway Authority (NHA) on Wednesday strongly rejected a news report about irregularities in the award of contract for the Multan-Sukkur section of the motorway.

The NHA chairman clarified that the discussion in the Senate Standing Committee had been grossly misunderstood and misreported.

“The Multan-Sukkur motorway is the flagship project of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The contract for the subject project was processed and awarded as per prevalent rules and regulations with total transparency and there is no question of violation of any rule in this regard,” a spokesperson for the NHA said.

“Such news has the potential to damage the CPEC whose significance as a real game-changer project for the future economy of Pakistan demands a greater sense of responsibility from all concerned.”
