Islamabad March 3 (TNS): The Karachi Company police have registered a case against daily wage teachers, who have been on protesting for over 60 days demanding the release of upheld salaries and regularization of jobs, for blocking the Kashmir Highway by staging a sit-in.

In the FIR, the police have stated that the protesters staged a sit-in on the Kashmir Highway and disrupted traffic, causing inconvenience to motorists and commuters. According to the FIR, the protesting daily-wage teachers assaulted policemen after they tried to stop them from blocking the highway. The Hundreds of teaching and non-teaching staff of 424 model and federal government educational institutions of the Federal Directorate of Education have been protesting for non-payment of their salaries and non-regularization of their jobs.

In December, the Ministry of Finance approved Rs140 million for payment of their salaries but the amount has not yet been released, say the protesting daily-wage teachers.

The daily wage teachers lamented that the government has neither released their salaries nor regularized their jobs and instead they have been booked by the police for demanding their just rights.

Over 3,000 teaching and non-teaching staff of various schools and colleges of Islamabad have been staging the protest demanding regularization of jobs without appearing in the test, which the CADD says, was mandatory for confirmation of their jobs. The CADD also announced to give 5 grace marks to the daily wagers if they appear in the test, however, the protesting staffers are reluctant to undergo any screening, claiming even if they appear in the test, the FDE and CADD officials will influence the process of transparency. They alleged that the some of the FDE and CADD senior staff earlier got their loved ones hired without test despite the fact highly qualified teachers had been rendering their service for the last many years.

Internal maneuvering in the FDE and CADD, nepotism and favoritism and corruption in the education sector has been taking a toll on the students while half of the teaching staffers were on the roads for the last over 50 days despite the fact that exams are around the corner.

Earlier, Carrying placards demanding regularisation, the teachers chanted slogans against the government, the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) and the FDE – which runs their schools.
