Afghan gets job in interior ministry through ‘deception’

Islamabad June 30 (TNS): After reports emerged that an Afghan national has secured a job at the Ministry of Interior by furnishing counterfeit credentials, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar has taken notice of the induction and ordered an inquiry into the episode.

According to media reports, Sher Ahmed, son of Ali Ahmed, an Afghan by origin, and a resident of Satellite Town Quetta has been appointed as Assistant Director in the Passport and Immigration Department at the Ministry of Interior.

Qualified and pre-selected local Pakistani candidates were rejected due to two years required administrative experience and the Afghan national was given preference after he provided fake experience certificate.

Sher Ahmed belongs to Afghanistan’s Helmand province and is residing in Quetta. He has been issued Pakistani documents (CNIC and local/domicile certificate) with the help of a coalition party in Balochistan government to facilitate Afghans in getting a passport and help them in immigration cases.

A spokesperson for the interior ministry said that the appointment of Sher Ahmed has been made through the Public Service of Pakistan and the Ministry has nothing to do with the induction.

According to the spokesperson, the minister has directed NARDA authorities to determine the credentials of Sher Ahmed before initiating an inquiry into the whole episode leading to the induction of the Afghan national into the sensitive department.
