Imran announces to contest elections from Karachi

Karachi March 5 (TNS): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran has confessed that his party members were bribed in the recently held Senate elections and they voted to rival party candidates.

Taking to the media in Karachi on Monday, he said he has ordered an inquiry into the alleged horse-trading after his party MPAs changed loyalties.

At the same time, he announced to contest on a seat from Karachi in the upcoming general election and he would better serve the city as its representative.

Appealing the chief justice to take suo moto notice of the alleged bribery, the PTI chief said that a price tag of Rs 40 million was offered to the members to defect and vote against party nominees. He said that the Senate polls were nothing but a sham and it should also be investigated by intelligence agencies.

Imran also said that nobody was ready to own the sorry state of affairs in Karachi, where politics of anarchy is looming large. He said that the educated people of Karachi remained aloof from active politics due to terrorism and anarchy.

He said that the Pakistan People’s Party was treating the megacity city as its turf. He called for strengthening the local government system in Karachi to cope with the issue facing the metropolitan city.

He also lashed out at Geo TV and Jang owner Mir Shakilur Rehman, accusing him of running his media house as a rental company, where money reign supreme at the cost of fair journalism while workers and journalists of the group were being denied salaries.
