Young woman seeking sex change petitions court

Islamabad March 7 (TNS): A 27-year-old woman has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court seeking permission to get sex change operation done after her doctors have recommended for the procedure.

Yusra Waheed, a resident of Islamabad, through her counsel Raja Rizwan Abbasi, has petitioned in the court contending that she was suffering from congenital defects and have masculine features and she should be allowed to undergo the procedure as recommended by her doctors.

The petitioner citing the Federation, the National Database and Registration Authority and others as respondents has contended that though the Pakistani laws were vague on such issues, she should be permitted to change her gender and her name should also be changed in her all credentials and records accordingly.

The petitioner, who has graduation degree from the University of London through distant learning,  has said that she wants to change her female name in the national identity card after undergoing the sex change procedure.

The petitioner, who has appended all medical reports with her plea, has contended she was facing with sexual disorders and it was quite natural and the phenomena could not be done away with but only the medical intervention was the solution to change her sex. The petitioner has also contended that she was suffering from the phenomena since her childhood and she always felt to have possessed masculine features as she grew up. She has contended that she wanted to remove the woman trapped in her man’s body and she should be permitted for the sex change procedure.
