Shahbaz Sharif picked as PML-N’s president

Islamabad March 13 (TNS): The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz on Monday elected Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif as the permanent president of the party after no other member of the party filed nomination papers against his candidature.

The central supreme council of the party, which is holding a session later in the day at Convention Centre in Islamabad, will formally ratify and notify his election.

Eairleri, the Central Working Committee the party had elected Punjab junior Sharif as acting president after his name was floated by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who was the president of the party before he was declared ineligible by the Supreme Court to hold the office after his disqualification in the Panama Papers case.

Senior party leaders and a large number of workers have started gathering at the Convention Centre where they party will also take up other issue after it lost Senate chairman and deputy chairman slots on Monday.
