Islamabad March 15 (TNS): The accountability court Islamabad on Thursday resumed hearing in the Avenfield properties reference against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family as a prosecution witness and former JIT head Wajid Zia will testify before the court.

Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz through her counsel Amjad Perwaiz challenged making the JIT report part of the prosecution record and after arguments from both sides, the court reserved the judgment. The former premier, his daughter and his son-in-law appeared in the court before trial court judge Mohammad Bashir exempted them from today’s hearing after Nawaz and Sharif sought the exemption.

The trial court has paused the proceeding till Wajid Zia appears in the court to record his statement.

Talking to the media outside the court, Sharif said that the judicial system had been crippled by undue delays. He also called for swift justice and vowed to work for changing the rotten judicial system.

At the last hearing, Zia had requested the court to make the JIT report part of the prosecution record, however, the trial court did not entertain his request and summoned him to record his third and last statement against the Sharifs in the Avenfield reference.

Capt (retd) Muhammad Safdar, who also appeared in the court, talking to the media outside court said that the JIT was illegal from the very beginning. It had no role in unearthing any corruption but it became a tool of conspiracy, he said.
