PESHAWAR March 21 (TNS): The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday took up the case of Sharifa Bibi, who was sexually assaulted in Dera Ismail Khan a month ago.

The accused in the sexual assault case is still at large.

PHC two-member bench heard the case in the presence of DI Khan DIG Karim Khan, who told the court that concerted efforts were being made to arrest the main accused, Sajawal Khan, who has gone into hiding after sexually assaulting the girl. The DIG ruled out the possibility that the accused may have fled the country saying no passport has been issued to the suspect from anywhere and he was probably hiding in the country.

The police officer told the court that the NADRA has already blocked the identity card of the suspect. He said that several raids had been conducted to arrest the suspect at various places but no progress could be made in this regard.

The DIG said that action has also been taken against relatives of the accused and five cases had been registered against them.

The police officer said that a raid was also conducted at the residence of an influential landlord in Punjab but the accused was not there.

He assured the court that the accused would soon be behind the bars. The court directed the police officer to arrest the accused at the earliest and put off the hearing.
