Lahore March 27 (TNS): A worker died on Tuesday as hundreds of lady health workers (LHWs) continue their protest on Mall Road for the second day, demanding service structure and releasing withheld salaries.

Huge traffic gridlocks and jams were witnessed on Mall Road and adjoining areas as motorists and commuters pushed through alternative and already congested routes to reach their destinations.

The LHWs were protesting near Chairing Cross when a lady health worker collapsed due to heatstroke and she was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The LHWs have been camping on the Mall Road for the last 24 hours and vowed to continue their protest until the provincial government meets their demand including service structure, the release of withheld salaries, regular annual increment etc.

The protesting LHWs claimed that they have not been paid for the last five months and they have not been given an increment since 2012.

As the protest continues and motorists and commuters suffer, no health official or any other government representative has approached the protesters. Some motorists cursed the provincial administration for being callous and indifferent in reaching out to protestors and convince them to end the protest.
