ATC grants exemption to Imran in police officials’ torture case

ISLAMABAD, March 27 (TNS): An Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad on Tuesday accepted the exemption plea of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan in a case involving the torture of former SSP Islamabad and other officials.

When ATC judge Shahrukh Arjumand took up the case, Imran Khan’s lawyer Shahid Naseem Gondal requested exemption from hearing for his client.

The judge while approving the request adjourned the hearing till April 10.

A case was registered against Imran, Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Tahirul Qadri and others for torturing former Islamabad SSP Asmatullah Junejo and five other police official during the 2014 sit-in. Arrest warrants had also been issued against the two leaders.

The police officers were beaten up by the protesters on Constitution Avenue.
