Islamabad, March 27 (TNS): The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal on Tuesday said that the elimination of corruption is the top priority of the prime anti-graft watchdog, says a press release issued by the NAB.
“Wiping out corruption from Pakistan is the top priority of NAB, and to that end, the bureau believes in its Accountability for All policy,” Javed Iqbal said while speaking during NAB’s meeting at Islamabad headquarters.
The NAB chairman continued that back in 2017, when he was appointed the bureau head, he vowed to bring visible changes by assuring across the board accountability. “The people of Pakistan have their eyes fixed on NAB in the fight against corruption,” he added.
“NAB works within the framework of law to make sure that all complaints are properly verified and transparency in inquiries and investigations is guaranteed. Corruption is a curse and a great hurdle in the way of prosperity,” Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal further commented.
Lauding the bureau’s performance under his leadership, NAB chairman said that during the span of 5 months, bureau officials have stepped up their pace to counter corruption and malpractices.
‘In 5 months, NAB has arrested 226 suspects, verified 55 complaints, conducted 39 inquiries, while 27 suspects were punished by the accountability court, which is the perfect example of NAB’s efficiency,” Javed Iqbal said.
He further stressed that neither does NAB as a whole or any individual from the bureau holds personal grudges against anyone and that NAB’s only target is to eliminate corruption from Pakistan and work for the welfare of people.
