Karachi March 29 (TNS): The federal anti-corruption court on Thursday indicted former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and others on charges of corruption and misuse of authority.

The former premier and others have been accused of corruption in the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).

When the anti-corruption judge told the former premier that Rs5 million were transferred in his account through a front man, however, Gilani pleaded not guilty and denied that the money was transferred to his account.

Gilani was among 26 others facing cases in the multi-billion scam that also led to his disqualification and ouster from the office in 2012.

The case has stretched over the past six years since Gilani’s ouster from office.

Talking to the media outside the court, Farooq H Naek and Gilani said that they will fight the case and claimed that the case was politically motivated. Naek said that he will cross-examine the front man, who was still unknown to him, during the course of proceedings after the indictment.

The Federal Investigation Agency had registered cases against Gilani and over a dozen of TDAP officials for their alleged involvement in approving and disbursing fraudulent trade subsidies worth billions of rupees to several fake companies.
