PM announces Rs1 billion for BISP education, endowment programme

Islamabad March 29 (TNS): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Thursday that the government will continue to assist programmes aimed at poverty alleviation and employment opportunities.

Addressing the launching ceremony of the graduation programme and the endowment fund under the Benazir Income Support Programme in Islamabad, the premier said that the BISP had been rendering an excellent service by delivering cash amount to the deserving people of the society.

Abbasi said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led federal government has increased the budget of the BISP by 50 percent and the cash amount to the beneficiaries was also raised.

He said that the education and the endowment programme will enable the people to find decent jobs and play their role in the development of the country.

The premier also announced a grant of Rs1 billion for the endowment fund. Earlier, Chairperson BISP Marvi Memon said BISP is the leading program in the world in terms of achievement of social goals.

She said the education program will help poor women to overcome poverty by standing on their feet and empower them financially to start their own businesses.
