Sobbing Malala calls for children education, women empowerment

Islamabad March 29 (TNS): Nobel peace laureate Malala Yousafzai, who returned to the country after a gap of five years, on Thursday called for focusing on children education.

Speaking at a function at the Prime Minister’s House here, the sobbing Malala said that it was very difficult for her to remain without her country and the people. She said that wherever she went around the globe, she felt she was walking in her own country and among her own people.

She said that she has already been working on education around the globe and in Pakistan and her Malala Fund will continue to support children education in the country. She said that she did not believe her eyes that she was among with her own people. Malala said that under the Malala Fund, around $60 million has been invested in Pakistan and an additional sum will be spent on children education.

Malala said that they should work for the welfare and education of the youth and exhibit unity in our file and rank so that the country progress.

She said that health and education were not political but it was the basic right of the children and the marginalized people. “Women should have access to good healthcare facilities and education and they should be empowered,” she said.

She urged the political parties to show unity and work for the betterment and development of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi while welcoming the Nobel laureate said that the country has fought a decisive war against terrorism and in the fight, thousands of security forces have led their lives. The premier said that Malala was not an ordinary citizen and her security was the responsibility of the government.

The premier told Malala that she was herself the victim of terrorism but the country has made great strides in fighting the menace. He said that her endeavour for children education was the harbinger of change.

Malala was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman six years ago in Swat for advocating women education.
