CJP’s remarks unbecoming of a judge: Nawaz

Islamabad March 29 (TNS): While taking exception to the remarks of chief justice about his meeting with the prime minister, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said that the remarks were unbecoming of a judge.

Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar while hearing a case about encroachments in Murree uttered the remarks that during his meeting with the prime minister, he did not lose anything and instead he gained and his community (judges and lawyers) should not be that much worried about the meeting.

Sharif, who along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Muhammad Safdar, appeared before the trial court in the Avenfield reference, talking to the media said that the prime minister could seek an explanation from the chief justice over his uncalled for remarks.

The former premier said that every state institution should work within its constitutional domain. He claimed that he never meddled in the affairs of other institutions.

Sharif also called Supreme Court judge Azmat Saeed Sheikh’s remarks that a room available in Adiala Jail, saying it was not fitting for a judge to use such words against a three-time elected prime minister.

The former premier said that the people were seriously subscribing to his narrative for giving importance to the ballot and protecting its sanctity.

Meanwhile, the prosecution witness and JIT chief Wajid Zia appeared before the trial court to be cross-examined by the defendants’ counsels.
