Islamabad March 30 (TNS): In an unprecedented move, the Election Commission of Pakistan on Friday decided to hold the upcoming general election under the judges of district and sessions courts.

The poll body has written to registrars of high courts, seeking names of lower judiciary judges so that they could be appointed as returning officers (ROs) at the polling stations.

The ECP said that the decision to appoint judges as ROs had been made to ensure transparency in conducting the general election, which, in the past, had been marred by irregularities and rigging, putting a question mark on the whole exercise costing billions of rupees.
