Faisalabad April 2 (TNS): Another harrowing incident of rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in Jaranwala tested the nerves of the residents after another young girl was raped and murdered a few days back.
The latest incident evoked a strong reaction from the area residents, traders, lawyers, students and other segments of the society, who took to the roads in different areas of the city and staged strong protests on Monday.
The Jaranwala market remained closed, the lawyers boycotted courts and the students boycotted classes amidst the provincial chief minister and the police chief ordering an inquiry into the latest incident. The protesters lit bone fires, disrupted traffic and raised slogans against the local administration and the police over their mysterious inaction and failure to arrest the culprits.
The mutilated body of the seven-year-old rape victim was found in the fields last night.
The police have registered a case against unidentified suspects but no headway could be made in arresting the rapists and murderers.
On March 28, the body of a college student was found in Dijkot in Faisalabad after she was kidnapped from her house on March 25. The culprits are still at large.
