CDA to regularize settlements around Bani Gala

ISLAMABAD April 03 (TNS): The Supreme Court was informed on Tuesday that the settlements around Bani Gala will be regularized after the federal cabinet approved the regularization plan of the Capital Development Authority.

When a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar took up the suo motu case related to illegal structures and environmental degradation in Bani Gala, the additional advocate general (AAG) told the court that the CDA has finalized the regularisation plan of the area and the entire settlement will be regularized. The official, however, clarified that only those structures will be regularized which have been established prior to March 30, 2018, and the ones erected after that date will be razed.
The chief justice remarked that there should be no illegal construction in the future, observing that the purpose of the case is to safeguard the Korang Nullah and the botanical garden.
The court ordered the authorities to get approved by the cabinet the regularisation plan in two weeks. It also summoned monthly reports regarding the sewage treatment plant, a report on action against illegal structures on Korang Nullah and sought regarding the botanical garden.
