Pakistan wins war on terror, world fails: PM

Islamabad April 5 (TNS): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Thursday that Pakistan is the only country in the world that has won the war on terror while the rest of the world is still struggling to win the protracted war.

Addressing the closing ceremony of an international anti-terrorism conference organized by the National Counter Terrorism Authority in Islamabad, he said that Pakistan triumphantly fought the war on terror with its own resources and “we have won the war”>

The premier urged the world powers to go after the main cause which breeds extremism and terrorism and international flashpoints were needed to be addressed so that peace prevailed across the globe.

While referring to the ongoing bloodshed in the held Kashmir by Indian forces and the recent killing of seminary students in Kunduz Afghanistan by NATO forces, the premier said that such incidents flare up extremism and terrorism and that should be avoided.

He said that the freedom struggle in Kashmir was totally indigenous and it could not be suppressed and the solution to the Kashmir conflict lied in the implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions.

Abbasi urged the international community to focus their attention what was going on in the occupied Kashmir.

The premier also said that no other country could be more desirous than Pakistan seeking normalcy and peace to Pakistan and the path of dialogue should be chosen to bring peace to the war-torn country.

Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif said that Pakistan’s success against the war on terror has put the country on the path to development and its vision for a democratic country.

He said the nation stood should to shoulder in fighting the menace of extremism and terrorism. He said that Pakistan remained the worst victim of terrorism but it never buckled and “our security forces fought a valiant war to safeguard the territorial integrity”.

He said that the security forces and the nation were committed and reaffirm their resolve to eliminate terrorism from their soil.

Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said terrorism was a global challenge and collaboration was the only way forward to defeat the menace. He said that international conflicts will have to be resolved instead of putting blames on each other to root out the menace from the globe.

Ahsan said that the protracted conflict in Afghanistan and the ongoing killing in the held Kashmir were posing a serious challenge to world peace and it could not be ruled out that extremists will try to cash in on the issues.
