LAHORE April 5 (TNS): The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday barred the government from harassing proscribed Jamaatud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed and allowed him to continue his ‘social welfare activities’ till April 23.

LHC judge Ameenud Din Khan heard the petition filed by AK Dogar on behalf of Saeed and directed the authorities to submit their replies on the petition by April 23.

Saeed has alleged that the government was interfering in his party’s welfare projects at the behest of India and the United States.

He has argued that stopping an organization or party from carrying out ‘charity work’ was against the Constitution.

The petitioner’s counsel has pleaded that a full bench should be constituted the case as it was ‘very sensitive in nature’. Justice Khan said that a decision for a full bench will be made at the next hearing.

Justice Khan has directed the federal and provincial governments to submit their replies by April 23 and the hearing was adjourned till the next hearing.
