Islamabad April 5 (TNS): Chief justice Justice Saqib Nisar on Thursday made it clear that the next general election will be held on time and no hurdles will be tolerated.

Addressing a memorial reference arranged by the Supreme Court Bar Association in remembrance of human rights activist and senior lawyer Asma Jahangir here, Justice Nisar said that there was no room for any martial law in the Constitution.

“Some people are deliberately disseminating misperceptions about a judicial martial law from time to time. As far as I am here, there will be no martial law or a judicial coup. There will be only democracy and democracy,” he said.

He vowed that he will not allow anyone to play with the Constitution and added that if he failed to stop any martial law, then he will go home. The CJP assured that the supremacy of the Constitution will prevail and elections will be held on time.

Justice Nisar also lauded the late Jahangir for her contributions to the judiciary and human rights in the country. He said that what a modicum of freedom we have today was because of her struggle for the supremacy of the law.
