Quetta April 9 (TNS): Taking exception to the wretched conditions in hospitals and educational institutions across Balochistan, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday sought the record of the health budget and explanation from the authorities over the poor performance in service delivery.

Hearing public interest cases at the Supreme Court Registry in Quetta, the chief justice questioned what the past chief minister did for the province and the people’s welfare when they were in power.

He summoned the authorities and ministers to tell the court about their performance. The provincial chief secretary, the health and education secretaries appeared before the court and explained their position and the overall performance of their respective departments.

The chief justice also took exception to the ongoing strike of the young doctors in the province after the health secretary informed the bench that patients were suffering as the doctors have gone on the strike. The chief justice inquired how they could go on strike despite the court order against doing so.

Provincial Health Secretary Saleh Muhammad Nasser told the bench that no one was available to treat the patients at hospitals due to the ongoing strike of the doctors.

The chief justice said that that was unacceptable and he will issue an appropriate order in this regard
