Islamabad April 31 (TNS): Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah said on Friday that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif fell victim to his own shenanigans and trap (Article 62 (1), (f)) he had crafted to appease a dictator to victimize political opponents.
“It was Nawaz Sharif who helped Dictator Ziaul Haq to craft this article when he (Nawaz) was the chief minister of Punjab. Later, while the nitty-gritty details of the 18th amendment were being finalized, the Pakistan People’s Party had proposed to do away with Article 62, (1) (f) but it was he (Nawaz) and his party that opposed the proposal tooth and nail. Now, they themselves have fallen victim to the trap they had laid for the opponents,” Shah said while talking to the media outside the Parliament House.
He hinted that legislation could be made in the parliament if the ruling party brought a bill, seeking to do away with Article 62, (1) (f). He, however, made it clear that before making such law, political parties and politicians will have to make the parliament strong and its supremacy will have to be established.
Shah said that it was the PML-N and the PTI that took parliamentary issues to the court, which did not augur well for the supremacy of the parliament.
He also said that court decisions will have to be respected once they were handed down by the judges.
