Karachi April 17 (TNS): A strong protest erupted in the Katti Pahari area of Karachi after the tortured body of a minor girl was found from the trash early on Tuesday.
According to the postmortem report, the minor girl had been tortured, raped and strangled to death by her tormentors before dumping her body in the trash.
At least one police official and three protesters were injured when the police launched a crackdown and fired tear gas on the protesters who were demanding the arrest of the culprits behind the killing of the minor girl.
The police claimed that two of the three nominated suspects have been arrested.
After the situation spiraled out of control, the police withdrew from the scene and Rnagers personnel reached the scene and negotiations were underway with the protesters to end the protest.
According to eye-witnesses the badly tortured and mutilated body of the minor girl was found in the trash in the Mangu Pir area of Orangi Town on Tuesday. The seven-year-old Rabia had been missing from her house since Sunday.
After the body was found in the trash, relatives of the minor girl and the locals took to the streets and staged a strong protest by blocking the road and pelting the passing vehicles with stones.
Police said claimed that the protest erupted after they failed to inform the family on time about the arrest of the two suspects.
According to latest reports, Abdur Rehman, one of the injured protesters, was pronounced dead by doctors at the Jinnah Hospital.
Meanwhile, Sindh Police Inspector General AD Khawaja has sought a detailed report from the Deputy Inspector General West on the issue.
