Islamabad April 17 (TNS): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday suspended a notification issued by the Ministry of Housing and Works whereby judges of district and sessions court had been asked to vacate government residences.
IHC judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui suspended the notification on a petition filed by 33 district and sessions court judges challenging the notification of the Ministry of Housing and Works, where they had been asked to vacate the residences.
The IHC judge said that the government residences could not be vacated till the next hearing and any attempt of eviction would tantamount to contempt of court.
Justice Siddiqui said that the Ministry of Housing has issued residences to the judges on a give and take basis and if the judges were not giving anything than they will be expelled from their government residences.
The counsel representing the petitioners told the court that the judges had been notified to vacate the government residences by the Ministry of Housing and Work.
He said that the residences had been issued to the judges in accordance with law and the judges were paying regularly paying the rent.
The court issued notices to the Estate Officer and others and adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
