Islamabad April 18 (TNS): Minister of State for Communications Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhary has said that the government is well aware of the National Highway and Motorway Police (NH & MP) problems and we are committed to resolving all outstanding issue of NH&MP including issues related to medical policy, time-scale for promotion and other institutional shortcomings before the completion of incumbent government period.
The minister was speaking to Administrative Retreat Meeting 2018, organized by NH&MP in collaboration with Sustainable Development Policy Institute, says a press release issued by the ministry of communication here on Wednesday.
Junaid Anwar Chaudhary, said that NH&MP is highly professional and performing to the best of its capabilities and potential. “It is a matter of pride for me to be part of this institution as state minister, which is not only admired at national level but also acknowledged at international level”, he said, adding that the ministry will leave no stone un-turn to make the NH&MP an exemplary institution.
Speaking earlier Dr. Syed Kaleem Imam, Inspector General, National Highway and Motorway Policy (NH & MP) said NH&MP is an icon of excellence and to further improve the services to general public, there is need to overcome the existing shortcomings and weakness of the institution. “Today, we all gathered here to analyze and take stock of our progress and to chalk-out way forward to ensure better services to public”, said Dr Kaleem Imam, adding that we are trying to develop the capacity of the officers through various training programs with the help of our partners, such as SDPI.
While conducting a training session during the retreat, Dr Abid Qayyum Suleri, Executive Director, SDPI said that there is no better way to adapt to the requirements of changing time but to assess our strength and weaknesses in an introspective manner. He said in this context, NH&MP effort in convening its retreat is highly commendable.
Towards the end, regional and zonal in-charges and officers of NH&MP highlight various achievements, shortcomings and suggest way forward for their respective areas. Shortage of human resource, lack of proper logistics arrangements, lack of clarity in function and duties of different section, undefined hierarchy and weak media section were among major challenges identified by different regional officers. In their way forwards, officers recommended some structural changes in systems of monitoring and operations, road safety and standards and advance educational and training syllabus.
