Asif to represent Pakistan at FM’s Council meeting to be held in China

Islamabad April 21 (TNS): Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif will leave for China on Monday to attend the meeting of Council of Foreign Ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The SCO FM’s Council meeting will be held in Beijing on Tuesday, April 24.

The Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi will chair the meeting. The meeting is called to lay the groundwork for the SCO Qingdao Summit scheduled to be held in June.

The meeting will discuss issues related to peace and security at the international and regional level and promotion of cooperation amongst member states.

Khawaja Muhammad Asif will also have a bilateral meeting with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Pakistan became a full member of the SCO in June last year and has been playing an active role in the organization.

The SCO comprises eight member states China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, India, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and the four observer states including Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, and Mongolia.
