TV, Stage artist Madeeha Gauhar passed away, colleagues eulogized

Lahore April 25 (TNS): The Renowned Television, stage artist and founder of Ajoka Theater Madeeha Gauharpassed away by cancer in Lahore on Wednesday.

Madeeha Gauhar was born in Karachi in 1956. She was playwright, director of social theatre, and women’s rights activist at a time.

The woman activist founded Ajoka Theater in 1984 to highlight the woman rights.

The plays of the theatre were usually based on woman rights.

Madeeha was the first Pakistani to be honoured with the prestigious Prince Claus Award of Netherlands for her leadership of Ajoka while, the government of Pakistan has honoured her with Tamaga i Imtiaz.

Following the death news, her colleagues have expressed their grief over her demised and termed an irreplaceable loss for the entertainment industry.

The televisions host Tariq Aziz offered his tribute to her and said “she was the jack of all traits and her departure has created a gap which not filled again”.

Actor and director Qavi Khan described the death as shocking and a loss to the TV and theatre family. “Her work was exemplary for the coming generations while her services to TV and theatre will be remembered forever”.

Poet and writer Amjad Islam Amjad expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and said “Madiha was brave, well dedicated and talented. She was fully committed to her job”.
