Srinagar, April 25 (TNS): A cop in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, who gone missing along with a service rifle from police post-Pakherpora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, joined freedom fighters in South Kashmir, Indian media reported on Wednesday.
The Mirror report said that the cop who was posted as a constable at the Police Post Pakherpora has gone missing and has taken AK-47 rifle with him.
Constable Tariq Bhat (belt number 1151) son of Mohammad Abdullah Bhat of Khasipora Shopian has gone missing from the police post soon after he assumed the night shift duty in sentry post.
“He is believed to have fled away with an AK-47 rifle along with the ammunition as he was not found inside the post, and had joined freedom fighters,” the officer said.
SSP Budgam Tejinder Singh confirmed that a rifle was indeed missing from the police post-Pakherpora.
“We are ascertaining the incident and investigations into it has been launched,” he said.
Meanwhile, a joint team of Army and Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir visited the spot and launched a massive manhunt to trace out the missing cop.
Tariq Bhat is the fourth policeman who joined freedom fighters since 2015.
