Islamabad July 5 (TNS): The social media abuzz with scathing comments after the official and the VVIP protocol was given ahead of her appearing before the Joint Investigation Team probing the Panama Papers case involving the Sharif family.

The social media users including politicians and analysts took strong exception to Assistant Superintendent of Police Arsala Saleem for her salute to the first daughter and bowing her to lift a pen that had dropped soon after Maryam Nawaz got off her vehicle. Arsla Saleem, 24, is functioning as Assistant Superintendent of Police  at Ramna Police Station in Sector G-11, had been assigned the duty to escort Maryam Nawaz to the Federal Judicial Academy, where the JIT is headquartered.

Critics questioned how and why Maryam Nawaz was given such a huge protocol despite the fact that she is not a public office holder.

Pakistan People’s Party leader Syeda Shehla Raza, who was put behind bars during the first tenure of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in early 90s, and in jail she was tortured, said on Twitter: “Shame shame shame. From court to jail without lady police “kiya main kisi ki Beti nahi thee Mian Sahib”?

While reacting to the official protocol given to Maryam Nawaz, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan said on Twitter: “Inexplicable why private citizen Maryam getting official protocol with police saluting as she goes to appear before the criminal investigation?”.
