KARACHI, May 08 (TNS): The activists of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) clashed in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of the metropolis on Monday late night.
The clash erupted over a dispute on the venue of a public rally – Hakim Saeed Ground. The workers from both parties hurled stones at each other and damaged camps of their rival party.
Two vehicles were torched in the violence and several motorcycles were also damaged. Ranger’s personnel reached the site and were controlling the situation.
Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal along with PTI leader Faisal Vawda reached the site and attempted to calm down the situation.
Talking to the media, the Home Minister advised the workers of both parties to disperse and go home. He vowed that the situation would not be allowed to escalate further. He promised a proper inquiry into the episode. Answering a question, he dispelled the impression that police were not present at the site.
Sohail Anwar Siyal said the PPP had been given the permission to hold the rally at the ground on May 4.
PTI’s Faisal Vawda suggested that neither the PTI nor the PPP should hold a rally at the Ground in an attempt to resolve the matter.
