Islamabad, May 9 (TNS): Pakistan’s star all-rounder and most senior cricketer Shoaib Malik announced on Wednesday that he has now set his sights two play until the World T-20 tournament in 2020.
The all-rounder who has served Pakistan since 1999 said that, all his focus is now on the World Cup in 2019 and the World T-20 in Australia in two years’ time.
The 36-year-old is also aware that he will have to deliver consistently to keep his place in the playing XI for two more years, as he enters the twilight of his career.
The former Pakistan captain who will play in the Caribbean Premier League T-20 tournament later this year, wherein a presser he said, “The 2019 World Cup, 50-over cricket, is my last World Cup, but I want to play in the World T20 in 2020, that is my goal for Twenty20 cricket” he added,”These are the two big goals which I’m looking at, let’s see how it goes. If I’m consistently performing then I want to play these two World Cups.”
Shoaib Malik returned to the test arena in 2015, after he got a surprise call-up for the test squad after a gap of five years but announced his retirement that same year after a run of three tests.
However, Malik has been the spine of Pakistan’s middle order in the shorter formats of the game since his return as he has been consistent in three years with an average of above 50.
The middle-order batsman who hails from Sialkot has played 35 Tests, 261 one dayers and 95 T-20 Internationals for Pakistan, which includes a span of 19 years of service to the green shirts.
The Multan Sultans skipper has represented Barbados Tridents in the CPL for the last five years but has now joined a new franchise, Guyana Amazon Warriors for the 2018 edition, which will be played from August 8 to September 16.
