Islamabad, May 9 (TNS): Election Commission of Pakistan denied all rumours prevailing on media which claims that the commission has finalized the date for general elections at the end of July, and termed them baseless.
ECP issued a statement on Wednesday that no date is being considered for the upcoming general elections and no date has been fixed so far.
Different media outlets have reported earlier that ECP is considering finalizing the election polls date around 25 of July.
The commission work is in full flow, regarding the summary of elections date and once it is finalized it will be put forward to the president, ECP will issue the schedule of the polls once the president approves it.
Candidates will have to submit the nomination papers four weeks before ECP issues the final lists of the candidates, sources told.
The current government setup is set to complete its term on May 31, the caretaker government will take over once the term ends.
Caretaker set up will then have a huge task at their hands, as the general elections will be held in their supervision and it is important that the smooth transition of democratic power in the country is carried out transparently.
