ISLAMABAD May 16 (TNS): Most of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa faced the breakdown of electricity due to a technical fault at the Tarbela power plant early on Wednesday morning.
According to the power plant officials, the sudden shutdown due to technical difficulties is affecting various cities of Punjab including Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur along and several cities in KP, including Peshawar, Swat, and Lakki Marwat.
Technical teams have reached to the power plant along with the secretary of the Power Division and repairing work immediately starting to fix the fault.
While no timeline has been given as to when the repairs are expected to finish.
A spokesperson of the Atomic Energy Commission said the tripping of lines from the Tarbela plant caused all four Chashma Nuclear Power Plants to trip as well.
The Power Division spokesperson informed further that the present energy demand of the country is around 20,000 megawatts adding that the industries in Punjab will also face load-shedding of 10 hours from today.
Reacting to the move, the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association warned to protest by saying that only Punjab’s industries were being denied power for 10 hours a day.
The association will meet the finance minister today and then announce its next course of action, APTMA said.
