Naqeeb murder case: ATC is expected to indict Rao Anwar, his subordinates in a fake encounter charges

KARACHI, May 19 (TNS): An anti-terrorism court on Saturday postponed the hearing of the Naqeeb murder case till May 28 when it is expected to indict former Senior Superintendent Police Malir, Rao Anwar and his subordinates on charges of killing a South Waziristan youngster in a fake encounter.

During the proceedings, the former police officer along with other accused was presented before the ATC as it resumed the hearing of the case.

Anwar along with 10 of his subordinates has been arrested on charges of abducting Naqeebullah for ransom and later killing him along with three other detainees in a fake encounter on Jan 13 in the outskirts of the city.

The investigation officer submitted a progress report, informing that the police are making all-out efforts to arrest the absconders in the case.

DSP Qamar Ahmed, a close aide of the former SSP Malir, filed an application seeking his release on bail.

When the judge asked a state counsel present in the court to receive notice on the bail application, he refused to accept it.

The judge expressed astonishment at the lawyer declining to even receive the notice and said he had already written to the monitoring judge of anti-terrorism courts that if the cases were sent to the court, the staff to tackle the case should also be sent.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till May 28.
